The Catholic Congress (AKCC) is a dedicated organization consisting of lay members within the Syro-Malabar Church. Its mission focuses on promoting the overall development of the Syro-Malabar Catholic community while safeguarding civil and fundamental rights across various domains, including religious, social, cultural, educational, and economic concerns. Originally established in 1918 as the 'Keraleeya Catholica Mahajanasabha,' the Catholic Congress saw Mar Aloysius Pazheparambil take on the role of its first president. In 1929, John Nidhiry became the inaugural president of the Almaya Forum, and by 1931, the organization officially adopted the name All Kerala Catholic Congress. The Catholic Congress operates at various levels—parish, forane, diocesan, national, and global—encompassing the full range of Catholic lay life, from matters of faith to social initiatives, and the various professions that its members engage in. Currently, Mar Raphael Thattil, the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, serves as the Patron of the Catholic Congress. The Bishop Legate is Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil, with Fr. Philip Kaviyil acting as the Global Committee Director.
